Process of Online Therapy
Psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between an individual and a psychologist. It provides a supportive environment to talk openly and confidentially about concerns and feelings. Psychologists consider maintaining your confidentiality extremely important and will answer your questions regarding these rare circumstances when confidential information must be shared.
What happens during our first communications?
Within 48 hours of registration, you will receive an email containing procedural details such as specifics about accessing the communication technology, when to expect a reply, etc. You will also be asked to describe the issue or problem, what you have tried so far to deal with it, how it is affecting you, how long it has been a problem, and anything else you feel or believe is relevant to the issue or problem.
What is online therapy like?
Psychotherapy is a partnership between client and therapist where both are active participants. With guidance from the therapist, the client sets their goals for therapy. Once the desired outcome is clear, client and therapist work together to meet the client’s needs. Progress is reviewed frequently and the approach modified if necessary. Therapy is most effective when it focuses on the client making changes to improve his or her life. We can’t change the past and we can’t change other people. We can only change our behaviours, attitudes or reactions in the present in the service of greater happiness and satisfaction in the future.
